Review Of Into The Wild By Jon Krakauer Essay
I just finished reading a book called Into the Wild. It is about a man named Chris McCandless who decides to give up all his possessions and money, abandon his family, and embark on a journey to live in the Alaskan wilderness where he is found dead. Jon Krakauer, the author, explains McCandlessââ¬â¢s cause of death, starvation. However, he does not explain what persuaded him do all the extreme behaviors he did. Therefore, we will analyze the concept of a dysfunctional family and see how it led him to commit such actions and launch an odyssey to the wilderness. According to Texas Woman s University, family dysfunction is any circumstance that affects the normal functioning of a family. It continues to explain how dysfunctional families tend to hold on to a crisis and make its effect long-term (1). However, normal and healthy families tend to deal with the crisis as it happens, minimizing its effect on everyone and making it less damaging. Dysfunctional families can be affected by trauma or poor parenting skills (World of Psychology). One of the types of a dysfunctional family includes, that which is headed by an authoritarian figure (Disinherited). According to Kendra Cherry, an authoritarian parent usually has high expectations and demands but low responses to a childââ¬â¢s needs. She claims that authoritarian parents tend to impose rules without exposing the reason behind them and do not provide children with choices or options to express what they seek or declare theirShow MoreRelatedWhere Men Win Glory : The Odyssey Of Pat Tillman By Jon Krakauer2303 Words à |à 10 PagesThe book I read was Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman by Jon Krakauer. Personal Experience What I Know and What I Want to Learn...
What I Know/ What I Want to Find Out A couple weeks ago, in science class, we started talking about Earth and space systems. Ms. Stephenson told us to make a chart about what we knew about Earth and the space systems. Next, I drew out the chart and tried to think of what I knew about the topic. I couldnââ¬â¢t think of anything! The only part of Earth and space I knew were the basics. I knew that the sun is a star, the planets orbit around it, and Earthââ¬â¢s axis is at a tilt. I also knew that Earth is lopsided and that Pluto is a dwarf planet. That was about all I knew about Earth and space systems. I wanted to know more about Earth and space. How do the planets orbit? What makes the planets and other objects move? Are there any other galaxies out there? Does the sun affect any planets and how? I wrote all the questions I had under the ââ¬Å"What I Want to Knowâ⬠column. After writing some of my questions down I realized I was most interested in how the sun affected Earth and other planets. Finally, I formed the question: ââ¬Å"How do the surface features of the sun affect Earth and other planets?â⬠After much research I found out the answer. Based on the analysis and findings, the organization can take appropriate steps that will further help them to meet their short-term and long-term goals (Provost Fawcett, 2013). Marz Warre (2015) opine that there are several ethical challenges that a business organization can face during the process of data mining and data storage. It is of utmost importance to store personal information of their customers in their respective database. However, it has been that many companies can utilize the personal information of the customers and thus can breach their ethical code of conduct. It is of utmost importance for the firm to protect the privacy information of their customers and do not breach their ethical code of conduct. The employers of the firm need to abide by the code of ethics and should also ensure that no private information is leaked to any third party. If the employees of a respective organization fail to abide the code of ethics then, it will be harmful for the image of the firm. On the other hand, another ethical consideration may arise. If any organization interprets and provides wrong data, the, then, it may cause error of falsification. This can harm the firm in a bad manner. In addition to this, it can be also inferred that the management of the organization needs to cross check all the data before they can publish it officially. The employees of the firm also need to ensure all proper steps of data validation is followed in an effective manner. If the organization is successful in maintaining their ethical considerations, then, the customers will feel secure that their private information is safe. Therefore, the process of data mining and data analysis has wide range of consequences for both the firms as well its customers (Provost Fawcett, 2013). In addition to this, it can be inferred that there are several merits of using data mining tools. These are in the form of data storage, data modification, data validation and analyzing the internal and external trends. Conclusion It can be concluded that the process of data mining and data analysis helps to built up the brand image of an organization. It can be also inferred that both these processes helps to increase the level of competitiveness among the firms within the same industry. On the other hand, it is important for the firm to gather and record information in an ethical manner. This will further help them to gain the confidence of their customers. Therefore, the modern firms need to realize the importance of data analysis tools and techniques in order to gain a competitive advantage in the market. References Bates, D.
